A woman died and four people were injured in a three-car crash in Yaphank on Saturday night, Suffolk County police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 7:28 p.m. at Yaphank Avenue and Horseblock Road, police said.
A male driver was traveling west on Horseblock Road when he passed another vehicle, lost control of his car on the wet road and collided with two other cars that were going east.
The driver of the vehicle that lost control was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition with a severe head injury, police said. The female victim was a passenger in his vehicle.
Three other people hurt in the crash were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
No further details were immediately available. Fifth Squad detectives are investigating.
