Couple on motorcycle hurt in crash with deer

A couple out for a motorcycle ride in Peconic had to be airlifted to Stony Brook University on Sunday after police said their bike collided with a deer on County Road 48.

Southold Town police said John Simicich III, 49, and his wife, Noreen Simicich, 50, of Bohemia, were airlifted after the crash at 4:30 p.m.

A hospital spokesman said John Simicich was in fair condition Monday. Noreen Simicich was in good condition.

Police said the two were traveling westbound on County Road 48 when "a deer came onto the roadway and struck the motorcycle." Volunteers from the Cutchogue Fire Department administered first aid at the scene until the medical rescue helicopter arrived.
