Eastbound lanes on the Sunrise Highway were closed near Eastport on Saturday night as Suffolk detectives investigated a serious motor vehicle crash, police said.

The crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m., closing Sunrise Highway at Route 51.

At least one person suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

Further details were not immediately available, a police spokeswoman said.
