Pedestrian fatally hit in Holbrook, Sunrise Highway reopened after crash, police say

A 31-year-old Mastic Beach man was struck and killed after leaving his disabled pickup truck on a ramp leading  to westbound Sunrise Highway in Holbrook early Wednesday, Suffolk County police said. The crash closed the westbound highway in the area for several hours.

Police said Shawn Devlin was driving his 1992 Chevrolet pickup when it became disabled on the on-ramp between Broadway and Lincoln Avenue at about 5:20 a.m. Police said Devlin stopped his vehicle in an area between the entrance ramp and the main travel lanes of the highway and was struck by a 2017 Jeep when he exited the vehicle. He was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where police said he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the Jeep, John Annibell, 58, of Holtsville, was not injured in the crash. He has not been charged.

The Jeep was impounded for safety checks. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
