The NYPD is searching for a rape suspect with ties to Long Island.
David Evanson, who an NYPD spokesman said Tuesday "has a history of arrests on Long Island," is being sought after police said he sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman in her Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, apartment early Saturday.
A law enforcement official said the victim had a restraining order against Evanson, who lives in Deer Park.
Court records show Evanson pleaded guilty to assault with intent to cause physical injury after a previous arrest, that an order of protection was issued, and that he is due in Suffolk County criminal court for sentencing on Sept. 18. Records indicate he also pleaded guilty to resisting arrest.
Police said that during the attack Saturday Evanson entered the apartment through a window, choked the woman as she lay in bed, then "dragged her into the living room, sexually assaulted her, and fled in a sedan vehicle." The attack took place at about 3 a.m., police said.
Police are asking anyone who might have information on his whereabouts to call their Crime Stoppers tip line at 800-577-TIPS, at the website: www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting tips to CRIMES (274637) and entering TIPS577. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
