A Wyandanch man was fatally shot in front of his home early Sunday, Suffolk police said.

Officers were dispatched to State Avenue shortly after 4 a.m., where they found Desi Kingsberry, 30, shot in the head and lying in the front yard of his home.

Kingsberry was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Suffolk County's homicide squad, which is investigating the fatal shooting.

Sharlon Kingsberry, 32, said her brother, the third-youngest among 12 siblings, had been a sanitation worker for Babylon for the past eight years and was an aspiring rapper. Town officials could not be reached for comment yesterday.

He rapped under the names Dirt Bizzle and Bandanna The Great and had released three "mix tapes" of his music that he sold locally.

"He would do everything for the kids in the neighborhood," Sharlon Kingsberry said, recalling the many times he bought ice cream for children playing on the block.

Sharlon Kingsberry said he recently took $360 of his own money and threw it up in the air for neighborhood kids to catch.

His sister said he was a graduate of Wyandanch High School, but declined to comment on her brother's killing.

Kingsberry's younger brother Nehemiah Kingsberry, 22, said his brother encouraged him and others in the neighborhood to pursue their passion for music, and had set up a makeshift recording studio in his home.

"He was a good man," Nehemiah Kingsberry said. "He shared a lot, did a lot for the kids, he wanted people to learn from his struggles."

"Whatever happened to him wasn't his fault," Nehemiah said of the shooting. "He didn't deserve this."

Outside Kingsberry's home Sunday, friends and neighbors gathered to pay tribute, standing in a circle and raising a toast to him.

Babylon Town officials could not be reached for comment.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the homicide squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
