Driver, 19, killed, passenger hurt in Huntington crash

A driver was killed and a passenger seriously injured in an accident Monday afternoon on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington, Suffolk County police said.

Scott Mazzio, 19, of Huntington, was killed in the 2:30 p.m. crash at the intersection of Jericho and Warner Road, police said. The passenger, Sarah Triola, 19, of Fort Salonga, was taken to Huntington Hospital in serious condition, police said.

Mazzio was driving his 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix east on Jericho when he lost control and struck an unoccupied flatbed truck, which was parked near the intersection, police said. The owner of the truck was subsequently issued two summonses for equipment violations by the Motor Carrier Safety Section, police said.
