A woman was arrested at her home and charged with drunken driving and fleeing the scene of an accident after police said she crashed her car early Monday through the front window of a Copiague hardware store on Montauk Highway.

Suffolk County police said Gabrielle Lewis, 22, was arrested at her home on Kensington Court, a few blocks from the crash scene, not long after the 12:20 a.m. accident. Police said Lewis wasn't hard to locate.

She left her car at the scene.

Lewis was charged with driving while intoxicated and with leaving the scene of an accident. She pleaded not guilty at arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip and was released on a $2,500 cash bail.

Her attorney, Jason Russo of Bay Shore, said he did not have details of what happened, but that Lewis was treated for minor injuries.

Police said Lewis was headed north on Wilson Avenue, which forms a T-intersection at Montauk Highway, when her 2008 Nissan Altima crossed the eastbound and westbound lanes, crossed the sidewalk and parking lot of the Ace store -- and crashed through the front window.

Apparently, police said, Lewis was then driven home, where she was arrested.

Russo said he did not have details of how she got to her home, which is near the crash scene. "She was home for just a couple minutes before police got there and arrested her," he said.

No one else has been charged, police said.
