Suffolk County police said a man who crashed into a tree in Brentwood Sunday, overturning his sport utility vehicle, escaped serious injury.

The man, 33, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after the Brentwood Fire Department used hydraulic cutting tools to free him from his 2000 Ford Explorer, a police spokeswoman said.

But after being examined the man’s injuries were not deemed serious, she said. Police on Monday morning had no further details on the man’s condition.

The man was driving on Washington Avenue at about 10:20 p.m. when he lost control and crashed into the tree, she said.
