Driver hurt in Eastport accident

The driver of a Mercedes was injured Monday morning when she crashed into a landscaping truck in Eastport, Suffolk County police said.

The woman was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead with neck and back pain, a police spokeswoman said.

The accident on Eastport Manor Road and the north service drive of Sunrise Highway happened about 8:42 a.m., police said.

A spokesman for the Eastport Fire Department said firefighters removed the side door of the woman's Mercedes to free her from the car. She was taken to the hospital by the East Moriches Community Ambulance Co., the spokesman said.

The driver of the landscaping truck declined medical attention at the scene, the fire department spokesman said.

The driver of the landscaping truck was issued a ticket for an expired registration, police said.

Traffic on both roadways was delayed about 20 minutes as workers cleared debris, the spokesman said.
