Driver in Bay Shore hits BMW, runs off on foot, Suffolk police say

It was a hit-and-run, literally, with the driver fleeing on foot -- leaving his vehicle behind at the crime scene, police said.

The crash occurred at the entrance to the eastbound Southern State Parkway off Bay Shore Road near Storey Boulevard in Bay Shore at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday, Suffolk County police said. There, police said, a black Nissan Sentra struck a BMW. The driver of the BMW, identified only as a man, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of minor injuries.

Police said the driver of the Nissan fled, leaving his car.

The car was impounded.

Police are searching for the driver, but as of Thursday morning had made no arrests.
