Police: Man dies in East Farmingdale crash
The driver of a car was killed early Wednesday when he struck a Mack truck on westbound Route 109 in East Farmingdale, Suffolk County police said.
Joshua Hoffman, 34, of West Babylon, was driving a 1999 Saturn on Route 109 at about 5 a.m. when he hit an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound, police said.
The Saturn overturned, and Hoffman was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
The driver of the truck, William Gustafson, 43, of Lititz, Pennsylvania, was not injured.
Police said Gustafson was trying to make a left onto Bi County Boulevard when the accident occurred.
The Saturn was impounded for a safety check, and Motor Carrier Safety Section officers responded for a safety check of the truck.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
Investigators had closed Route 109 westbound, between Route 110 and Carmans Road, beginning at about 5:30 a.m. The road reopened just before 12:30 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation website.
