An East Moriches building superintendent was arrested Thursday at the 55 and older apartment complex where he works after Suffolk police said he stole from several tenants.
Police said John Alaia, 37, who also lives in the Walden Pond complex, sneaked into tenants' apartments while they were not home and stole from them. He was charged with second-degree burglary, a C felony, police said.
The investigation into the thefts is continuing, and detectives ask that residents of the complex call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 if they have missing items, especially jewelry.
Alaia will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
