Elmont teacher arrested on drug charge

A sixth-grade science teacher at Gotham Avenue School in Elmont was arrested during the Memorial Day weekend for criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to Southampton Village police.

Brian A. Huber, 29, of Elmont, was arrested in Southampton Village at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, village police said. Det. Sgt. Herman Lamison said the substance is believed to be the party drug Ecstasy, a stimulant and psychedelic drug also known as MDMA.

The charge is a misdemeanor.

School officials would not comment Wednesday on the arrest, and attempts to reach Huber were unsuccessful.

The school has 800 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, according to the district website.
