Police: Amagansett man dies after truck crashes into snowbank, utility pole

An Amagansett man was killed early Saturday when he lost control of his truck, struck a snowbank and then hit a utility pole, according to the East Hampton Town police.

Erik Payne, 25, was driving a 2001 Ford pickup northbound on Windmill Lane in Amagansett at about 2:30 a.m. when he veered off the roadway, south of Town Lane, police said.

Responding police officers and members of the Amagansett Fire Department found Payne in the vehicle. He was pronounced at the scene by investigators from the Suffolk County medical examiner's office, police said.

There was no one else in the vehicle, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-537-7575.
