Fire in St. James building

Volunteers from the St. James Fire Department quickly dealt with a blaze at a commercial building in St. James early Tuesday. Police said Arson Squad investigators are trying to determine the cause.

Suffolk County police and fire officials said a call about the fire at the building on North Country Avenue near Clinton Street was received at 5:53 a.m., reporting the building was fully engulfed. Officials said the fire was under control by 6:45 a.m.

It was not clear if anyone was in the building or if anyone on scene was injured.

Additional details were not immediately available.

A preliminary records search indicated the building housed an antiques store.
