A Bellport man who police said was driving drunk when he hit and critically injured a woman in Coram on Christmas Eve returns to court Tuesday facing an additional charge of unlawful possession of marijuana.

Floyd Patterson, 56, was remanded on bail of $150,000 bond or $50,000 cash at his arraignment Christmas Day. He's scheduled to be back in court Tuesday to face charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to court records.

Patterson was arrested on a DWI charge after Suffolk County police said he hit an unidentified woman who was walking on Fife Drive at about 11:30 p.m. Christmas Eve.

The woman, identified by police Friday as Laura Masciale, 50, who is homeless, was walking north and Patterson was driving south in a 2002 Hyundai Sonata, police said.

Masciale was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where a police spokesman Friday said she remained in critical condition.

The spokeswoman had no details on her injuries.

Detectives investigating the accident ask anyone with information to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
