An Islip woman and her three cousins from Arizona were rescued Sunday evening in the Great South Bay in Islip after their sailboat capsized, Suffolk County police said.

Witnesses on shore called 911 after a part failed on the 14-foot Sunfish sailboat and caused the boom to strike Shilo Immerman, 17, of Arizona, police said in a news release. The boat capsized and all four boaters went into the water about a quarter-mile south of Bayberry Point.

Teresa Pinnola, 20, of Islip, and Jarad Immerman, 22, were pulled from the water by Marine Bureau Officers Kevin Comiskey and Gregory Stroh, police said. Islip Fire Department firefighters rescued Kyle Sheets, 22, and Shilo Immerman was saved by good Samaritans on a passing vessel.

The Immermans were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
