Hauppauge man faces DWI in Riverhead crash

A Hauppauge man was arrested on a drunken-driving charge and had serious injuries Monday after his car hit a truck in Riverhead, Riverhead Town police said.

Robert McCoy was driving a 2009 Honda Accord west on Reeves Avenue about 6:15 p.m. when he hit a 2008 Dodge heavy-duty pickup that was traveling north on Horton Avenue, police said.

Robert McCoy, 50, was arrested at the scene on a charge of driving while intoxicated and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the truck, Samuel McCoy, 63 -- no relation to the other driver, according to police -- was taken to Peconic Bay Medical in Riverhead where he was treated and released.
