An East Patchogue man was injured early Sunday morning in a single car crash on the Expressway Drive South, the south service road of the Long Island Expressway, in Holtsville.

According to a Suffolk County police report, the accident occurred at 3:40 a.m. between Nicolls Road and Waverly Avenue when the unidentified driver, age 44, of a 1990 Mercedes was traveling eastbound and lost control of the car.

The vehicle crashed into trees on the side of the road, and a small fire started in the vehicle from the impact. The driver was able to escape on his own. He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Police said the man was later arrested but there were no details immediately available about the charges.
