A Selden man behind the wheel of a pickup died Friday afternoon after the vehicle struck a guardrail in Holbrook and then overturned, Suffolk County police said.

Edward Keith was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram northbound on Nicolls Road about 1:10 p.m. when the vehicle left the road, struck a guardrail and overturned near the intersection of Patchogue-Holbrook Road, police said in a statement.

Keith, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician’s assistant with the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.

Cops did not give any explanation for why the pickup left the road. The investigation was ongoing late Friday afternoon.

The crash and subsequent investigation prompted police to close Nicolls Road northbound near Greenbelt Parkway for hours. A department spokesman Friday afternoon said the road was reopened by 6:15 p.m. However, police could not say exactly what time it reopened.

The pickup was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Detectives urge anyone with information about the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
