Hundreds plunge into Long Island Sound

On Saturday, more than 500 people plunged into the frigid Long Island Sound for the second annual Town of Brookhaven Freezin' for a Reason Polar Plunge, which benefits the Special Olympics New York.

The Suffolk County Police Department Pipes and Drums Emerald Society welcomed plungers onto the beach as they prepared to jump into the Long Island Sound for the 2nd annual Town of Brookhaven Polar Plunge. All proceeds from the plunge are to benefit Special Olympics New York on Nov. 19, 2011.
