A Huntington Station man was critically injured Sunday after his personal watercraft crashed into a boat along the Great South Bay.

Suffolk County police said Roldando Moreno, 45, was riding a Yamaha WaveRunner in the Lindenhurst cut of the Great South Bay when his watercraft jumped the wake from a boat and crashed into a 23-foot Chaparral boat at about 5:25 p.m.

Moreno was transported to shore by another boater and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was admitted in critical condition, police said.

Jerry Maresca, 50 of West Babylon, said he was on a water scooter when he saw two men in the water, one unconscious, the other one holding the unconscious man, whom he described as being "in bad shape."

Maresca said the men were about 50 to 60 feet away from his watercraft.

The conscious man was screaming for help, Maresca said. Maresca came over on his personal watercraft and urged the conscious man to let go of the unconscious man.

Maresca then grabbed the unconscious man, his feet dangling in the water and his arms leaning against the watercraft, and brought him to another boat where CPR was performed.

No one on the boat was injured, and police did not have details about the boat's owner, a police spokeswoman said.
