Speed and weather conditions played roles in the deaths of two men who were killed in a single-car crash in Holbrook early Saturday, Suffolk County police said.

Jankel Lenin Nolasco Lemus, 30, of Brentwood, was driving a 2005 Honda eastbound on Union Avenue near Maple Avenue when the "vehicle left the roadway" and crashed into a pole at about 3:45 a.m., police said in a news release.

Lemus died at the scene. His passenger, Denis Humberto Delcid Cerrato, 24, of Ronkonkoma, died at Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

A safety check will be performed on the car, which was impounded, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652.
