A Port Jefferson Station woman was arrested Saturday night after she was found passed out with her toddler in a parked car, Suffolk County police said.

Police charged Joan Beard, 31, with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a controlled substance after they found her in the car with the engine off at the Gulf gas station at 3417 Route 112 in Medford about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officers were dispatched after receiving an anonymous 911 call reporting the woman in the driver seat with her 2-year-old daughter in the backseat. Police said they did not know how long she and her daughter had been in the car.

Police said they knocked on the car window but Beard did not respond. She woke up after officers opened the car door, police said. Her daughter was not hurt, police said.

Police said Beard was under the influence of drugs and she was booked overnight at Fourth Precinct for an arraignment Sunday morning at First District Court in Islip.

The girl was released to family members and police notified Child Protective Services.
