Police: Skydivers injured in free fall collision in Calverton

Two Long Islanders skydiving over the East End were injured after colliding midair Saturday afternoon at a parachuting facility in Calverton, Riverhead Town police said.

Kevin Arcamona, 29, of Island Park, and Patricia Baronowski, 46, of East Farmingdale, were in free fall at Skydive Long Island when Arcamona's knee hit Baronowski in the head, causing her to lose consciousness just after 12:30 p.m., police said.

Baronowski's parachute activated after the impact, sending her into a tree where her chute became stuck, suspending her 15 to 20 feet above the ground, police said.

She was rescued and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with a non-life-threatening head injury. Arcamona was treated at the same hospital for a leg injury, according to police.

A woman who answered the phone at Skydive Long Island said she didn't have information on the accident.
