Landscaper dies in fall from bucket truck in Lindenhurst, police say

The owner of a landscaping business was killed when he toppled out of a bucket truck while cutting down trees in Lindenhurst on Friday, Suffolk police said.

Oscar Martinez, 35, of Brentwood, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

He was on the bucket of the truck, working on Akron Street, when he fell to the ground just before 3 p.m., police said.

His death appears to be noncriminal, police said, and an autopsy will be conducted by the county medical examiner.

Photos from the scene showed the bucket high in the air, a rope tied to a branch hanging from the bucket arm.

Homicide detectives are investigating and police said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration had been notified. Police did not release other details, including what caused Martinez to fall out of the bucket.
