A landscaper who was standing in a roadway in Coram was struck and killed Wednesday morning by the driver of a 2004 Mercedes, Suffolk County police said.

"Sun glare may have been a contributing factor," police said, when the driver, Young Min Ban, 71, was heading east at 7:55 a.m. on Hawkins Road and struck Salvatore Leocata, 41, of Centereach.

Leocata was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Ban, of South Setauket, and a female passenger were not injured, police said.

Hawkins Road was temporarily closed for the accident investigation between Old Town Road and Conklin Avenue. Anyone with information on the accident can call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
