The motorcyclist who slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer Tuesday has died from his injuries in the fiery Holtsville crash, Suffolk County police said Wednesday.

Leonard Mastro, 53, of Holtsville, was thrown off his motorcycle about 8:05 p.m. and his bike got tangled in the underside of the truck, where it caught on fire, police said.

Mastro died Wednesday morning at Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, going westbound on Long Island Avenue, had swung the trailer to the left before making a right into Bissett Nursery when Mastro, also westbound, hit the back of the vehicle with his BMW motorcycle, police said.

The motorcycle was dragged into the driveway with the tractor-trailer, where it then went up in flames, police said.

The tractor-trailer driver, Rhondle Carlton Day Jr., of North Carolina, was not injured. Police said there appears to be no criminality in the crash.

Sixth Precinct detectives ask anyone with information to call them at 631-854-8652.
