A North Babylon man was killed in an early morning Sunday hit-and run crash on the Long Island Expressway near Brentwood, Suffolk police said Sunday.

Police said Terence McAree, 62, of North Babylon, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

He had been a passenger in a car that was struck by another vehicle on the LIE Exit 53 near Brentwood, police said. The driver of the other car fled on foot after the crash, Suffolk police said.

Police said Doreen Kucer, 59, was driving a 2016 Kia Optima westbound near exit 53 on the LIE when her car was struck in the rear by a 2008 Honda Accord at 2:18 a.m. Sunday. Kucer’s Kia then struck a guardrail and came to rest in the HOV lane, police said.

Kucer, who shares the same address as McAree, was treated for minor injuries at the same hospital in Bay Shore.

Police has not identified the driver who fled the scene. That person has not been located as of Sunday morning, police said.

The crash closed the westbound lanes of the highway for a few hours, police said.

The vehicles were impounded for a safety check and Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are asking anyone with information on the hit-and-run to call at 631-852-6553.
