The Village of Lindenhurst is again searching for a fire marshal.

In March, James Nolan was hired at an annual salary of $33,800. He never showed up, village Clerk-Treasurer Shawn Cullinane said, so the village is again seeking applicants.

Cullinane said that until a new fire marshal is hired, village officials are advising companies with major building projects to hire experts certified by the state who will attest in writing that everything is up to village and state code. "We're willing to accept that paperwork," he said.

As for other fire marshal duties, such as occupancy permits, the village may develop some backlog, Cullinane said, but he is confident that "we should be able to catch up."
