LIRR train hits man on Ronkonkoma line, MTA says

A man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after being struck by an LIRR train in Riverhead on Saturday.

A 1:11 p.m. train from Greenport to Ronkonkoma had just passed the Riverhead station when it struck the man, who MTA spokesman Salvatore Arena said was trespassing on the tracks about a quarter-mile from the station.

The man on the tracks suffered cuts to the back of the head, shoulder and elbow, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, MTA police said.

There were 30 passengers on board, Arena said.
