The Long Island Rail Road weekend summer service from Ronkonkoma to Greenport begins this Saturday, the LIRR announced yesterday.
Year-round weekend service was eliminated in 2010 during a round of budget cuts. Service has been restored annually on Saturday, Sundays and holidays during the summer with trains serving the North Fork wine region and historic-area sites.
Trains on those days depart Penn Station at 9:12 a.m. and 2:12 p.m. At Ronkonkoma, passengers transfer to a double-decker train for the trip through wine country and the rest of the way east.
For travel to Manhattan, trains leave Greenport at 1:11 p.m. and 6:11 p.m.
Summer service to Greenport ends Nov. 27 this year, LIRR officials said.
