Police: Port Jefferson Station man hit, seriously hurt by car
A Port Jefferson Station man remains in serious condition after he was struck by a car while crossing Route 25A near the Port Jefferson Long Island Rail Road Station on Thursday night, police said.
Suffolk County police identified the victim as Macario Jimenez, 58, who they said was struck at 9:02 p.m.
Jimenez was taken via Port Jefferson Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital. The driver of the 1999 Honda Civic that struck Jimenez, identified by police as Joseph Mauro, 49, of West Islip, was not injured in the crash.
Police said Mauro was headed southbound on Route 25A when his car hit Jimenez.
Mauro remained at the scene and was not charged. The car was impounded for a safety check, police said.
Police said the investigation is continuing and ask anyone with information about the accident to call Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652. All calls will remain confidential.
