A pedestrian, hospitalized after he was hit and seriously injured Wednesday night by a Long Island Rail Road train just east of the Babylon station, has died of his injuries, the transit agency said.
The LIRR released the name of the man, Brendan Clifford, 22, of East Islip, Thursday morning after notifying his family, railroad spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said.
Clifford was not authorized to be on the tracks when he was hit at about 11 p.m. a quarter-mile east of the Higbie Lane crossing, the LIRR said.
The westbound train that hit Clifford left Speonk at 9:59 p.m. and had been due in Babylon at 11:07 p.m., she said. Train traffic in both directions was held up during the LIRR investigation.
