Man dies after Huntington Station hit-run

The man who police said was dragged 500 feet by a hit-and-run driver in Huntington Station has died of his injuries, Suffolk County police said Wednesday.

The man, who has not been identified, was struck by a hit-and-run driver as he walked along Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station on Labor Day, police said.

In the 10:36 p.m. Monday accident the man was dragged 500 feet in a westbound lane from the corner of Thorney Avenue to an area in front of the Walt Whitman Motor Lodge, and he was taken to Huntington Hospital in serious condition, police said.

After the man's body became dislodged from the car, in front of the motel, the driver fled, police said.

Suffolk police are still searching for the driver and are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 631-854-8252 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.

Police have not provided a description of the vehicle.
