A Mount Sinai man died after crashing his sport-utility vehicle Thursday morning into a wooded area of Rocky Point, Suffolk police said.

Jeffrey Kitz, 40, lost control of his Chevrolet Trailblazer as he headed south on Rocky Point-Yaphank Road and crossed into the northbound lanes, then crashed in the woods, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash, which happened about 11:20 a.m. 1 1⁄2 miles south of Route 25A, shut down the street for more than three hours, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and Seventh Precinct detectives are investigating, police said.
