Man killed in Hauppauge parkway crash identified

State Police have identified the man killed in a single-car crash Wednesday on the Northern State Parkway as front-seat passenger Francisco Mejias Morales, 23, of Centereach.

Four others in the car were injured, two critically.

The accident occurred when the vehicle, a black Honda, overturned on the median in Hauppauge near Exit 46, New Highway, at 6:52 a.m.

Three people were ejected through a rear window, State Police said. A tree also toppled onto the car during the crash.

It remained unclear Thursday who was critically injured or what their conditions were.

Josue Mauricio Maldonado Santos, 23, of Centereach, was driving. The other passengers were Izac Mejias Morales, 23, Neptali Mejias Morales, 18, and Juan Carlos Santos, 22, all of Centereach.

Josue Mauricio Maldonado Santos and the three Morales men all lived at the same address, police said.

It was not immediately clear if they were related.

The crash closed the eastbound parkway for several hours Wednesday. It was reopened by about 10 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
