A 54-year-old woman was seriously injured Thursday night when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Shirley, Suffolk County police said.

Now, police are searching for the driver who hit Marie Braccia, of Mastic, as she crossed Grand Avenue just north of Montauk Highway at 7:55 p.m. Anyone with information regarding the hit-and-run is being asked to call Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.

The vehicle was headed north when the accident occurred, police said.

Police said that Braccia was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with serious injuries. Her condition was not immediately known.

Details about the vehicle that struck Braccia were not immediately available on Friday.
