Mastic man talking with neighbor injured in hit and run, cops say

A Mastic man talking to his neighbor on the street was hit and seriously injured by a vehicle that did not stop Saturday night, Suffolk police said.

Justin Collins, 34, was standing next to the neighbor's vehicle when he was struck by a dark-colored pickup truck going west on Wood Avenue about 8:30 p.m. The truck continued going west on Wood Avenue, police said.

Collins was taken by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A hospital spokeswoman said Sunday afternoon he was listed in good condition.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
