Measles warning issued for LI Sound ferry riders

Connecticut health officials say passengers on a Long Island Sound ferry may have been exposed to measles earlier this month because an infant had the contagious disease.

Authorities say the child from Massachusetts was on the Cross Sound Ferry for the 1 p.m. voyage on July 7 from New London to Orient Point, N.Y. People on the 3 p.m. return ferry to New London also may have been exposed.

Officials are also warning that the infant stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Riverhead, from July 7 to July 9, and people who stayed there may also be at risk.

Health officials are urging anyone who may have been exposed and has measles symptoms to contact their doctors immediately. Symptoms include a rash all over the body, fever, runny nose and cough.
