Man assaults fiancee, then leads cops on car chase, police say

A Center Moriches man punched his fiancee in the face, then refused to stop his car for police in Southampton on Sunday morning, New York State Police said.

Michael Kay, 33, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra west on Sunrise Highway east of County Road 111 about 6:10 a.m. when police said they tried to pull him over for speeding.

Kay would not stop, police said, and instead tried to evade them.

Kay drove to his home, where he parked the car and ran into the residence, police said.

Officers said they found a woman in Kay's car with blood on her face who identified Kay as her fiance and said he had punched her in the face.

Kay surrendered after officers went to his home. He was arrested and charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, third-degree assault and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

Kay was scheduled to be arraigned at Southampton Town Court.
