Celebrity dad Michael Lohan is denying he violated an order of protection by making a phone call to an ex-girlfriend, his attorney said Tuesday.

Lohan was at church Sunday when his former girlfriend called him, attorney Anthony Grandinette of Mineola said.

Lohan, 49, of Southampton, the estranged father of troubled movie star and Long Island native Lindsay Lohan, was charged Monday with second-degree contempt, a misdemeanor, police said.

He pleaded not guilty Monday in First District Court in Central Islip, a spokeswoman for the Suffolk district attorney's office said. He was ordered held on $2,000 bail and told to return to court Jan. 8.

Lohan's ex-girlfriend obtained an order of protection against Lohan last week stemming from an incident last month, Grandinette said. Lohan was charged Nov. 15 with second-degree harassment, a violation, court records show.

Grandinette said Lohan was standing in the parking lot of a Long Island church Sunday when he received a phone call from his former flame. Grandinette declined to identify the woman or the church.

In a statement Tuesday, Grandinette said, "Mr. Lohan was in his church parking lot, surrounded by many credible witnesses when he answered his phone."

Lohan is "the victim of fabricated claims," Grandinette said.

Suffolk police and the district attorney's office declined to comment.

He was charged earlier this year in Suffolk with making a threatening phone call to his then-girlfriend, Erin Muller, and threatening to kill her and himself if she ended their relationship, a charge he denied. Muller later said she did not want an order of protection against Lohan. That case is pending.
