Police: 2 drivers charged with DWI after Babylon crash; 1 passenger seriously hurt

A pair of motorists were charged with driving while intoxicated after their vehicles crashed early Saturday in Babylon, seriously injuring one passenger, Suffolk County police said.

Miguel Almonte, 22, of West Babylon, was driving a 2012 Honda Civic shortly after 3 a.m. on Livingston Avenue when he drove through a stop sign and collided with a 2013 Hyundai Sonata that was traveling west on Park Avenue, police said. The Civic then crashed into a telephone pole, police said.

Almonte and his two passengers, Joseph Adames, 22, and Xavier Gonzalez, 21, were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, authorities said.

Adames was treated and released while Almonte and Gonzalez, who had serious injured, were admitted to the hospital, police said.

The driver of the Sonata, Leslie Rizos, 49, of West Babylon, also was taken to Good Samaritan and was treated and released.

Both drivers are scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
