Moriches man charged with DWI in Mastic crash that injured him

A Moriches man was charged Sunday with driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a collision in which the driver of the second vehicle fled, Suffolk County police said.

Richard Vorraro Jr., 36, was traveling east on Sunrise Highway in Mastic when he collided with a blue pickup truck around 2:40 a.m. about 1.5 miles east of William Floyd Parkway.

The pickup truck driver drove away, police said.

Vorraro, of 83 Acorn Circle, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment of head and rib injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the vehicle that fled call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-8477.

In an earlier version, police provided an incorrect first name for Vorraro.
