Mosquito spraying set for Fire Island

Suffolk County plans to spray pesticide on parts of Fire Island Tuesday night in an effort to control mosquitoes, which spread West Nile virus.

Weather permitting, ground spraying of sumithrin will be done from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on all streets in Davis Park and Point O'Woods, according to the county health department.

During spraying, children and pregnant women are urged to "take care to avoid exposure when practical," health officials said.
