Motorcyclist critical after Riverhead crash

A motorcyclist was airlifted to a hospital Thursday after a collision with a driver trying to turn left in Riverhead, police said.

Steven Omisore, 34, of Manorville, suffered head injuries and was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was in critical but stable condition, Riverhead Town police said.

He was going east on Route 58 on his new Harley-Davidson motorcycle as driver Patricia Fallingen, heading west, tried to turn left into a gas station, police said.

The accident occurred about 10:49 a.m., just east of the off ramp for Exit 73 of the Long Island Expressway, police said.

Fallingen, 31, of Setauket, was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said.

The Harley and Fallingen's Volvo were impounded for safety checks.

Police said a landing zone for the helicopter was set up at the end of the Long Island Expressway.

Witnesses are asked to call police at 631-727-4500.
