Motorcyclist killed in Rocky Point crash after fleeing accident scene, police say

A motorcyclist fleeing a minor traffic accident was killed Sunday when he lost control of his bike and crashed into a stand of trees in Rocky Point, Suffolk County police said.

Russell Pallace, 54, of Mastic, died at the scene of the 8:55 p.m. crash on Rocky Point Road, police said.

Police said Pallace was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on Route 25A when he sideswiped a 2009 Cadillac, causing minor damage to the vehicle -- but no injuries.

Pallace then fled the scene, heading west on Route 25A then turning south onto Rocky Point Road, where he attempted to pass several vehicles only to lose control of the motorcycle, police said. The bike left the road and struck "a number of trees," police said, killing Pallace.

Police said the motorcycle was impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information regarding the fatal crash is asked to call Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.
