A 20-year-old woman escaped serious injury in a single-car crash Friday in Mount Sinai that left the car split in two, its engine and debris scattered across a roadway, police said.

The identity of the driver was not released, but Suffolk County police said she was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of undisclosed minor injuries.

Police said the crash occurred on southbound County Road 83, about a mile north of Canal Road, at about 1:20 a.m.

Photos from the scene showed the 2018 Honda Accord, the front end sheared off. Police said the car struck a fence and a tree before coming to rest. It was unclear if conditions were a factor.

No charges were filed.
