A 25-year-old Manorville man was charged Saturday with robbery and attempted robbery in two incidents at Tanger Outlets Riverhead, one in which he displayed a knife and demanded money, police said.
The suspect, Nicholas A. Rutigliano, was arraigned Saturday at the Riverhead Town Police Department and taken to the Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead. His cash bail was set at $10,000.
Riverhead police on Friday responded to the outlet center at 3:32 p.m. for a call about a suspicious person, according to a police report. The call was based on a Suffolk County Crime Stoppers alert for a robbery at Sunglass Hut on Jan. 6, authorities said.
Police said a Movado Company Store employee reported that a man wearing a black-colored jacket, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and sunglasses entered the store. He displayed a knife and demanded money from an employee at the register, but the employee ran from the area, and the man fled the store with no proceeds, police said. No injuries were reported.
A subsequent investigation led to Rutigliano's arrest on Friday for robbery at Sunglass Hut and attempted robbery at Movado Company Store, police said. No other details were immediately available about the Sunglass Hut incident.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Riverhead police at 631-727-4500, ext. 302.
